Manchester, N.H., July 9, 2025—With mandatory car inspections soon coming to an end in the Granite State, the grassroots activists behind the success are pleased to announce the formation of the New Hampshire Motorist Freedom PAC (NHMF·PAC), which aims to tackle a multitude of other unpopular, anti-liberty laws impacting New Hampshire’s 1.1 million motorists.
Among those issues are repairing the damage the increasingly-onerous inspection sticker scam had done to New Hampshire’s reputation and revenues.
“New Hampshire is the freest and most pro-business state in the nation,” said NHMF President Jeremy J. Olson. “Yet, many of our motorists and even businesses register their vehicles out-of-state to save on costs—in particular, complying with the mandatory car inspections. So one thing we’re looking at immediately is how to entice people back to New Hampshire. Montana, for example, has permanent registrations for vehicles ten years or older. Other states let you register for multiple years at a time. Why don’t we do that here?”
”New Hampshire also has the lowest vanity plate fees in the country, but other than the ‘moose plates,’ few options,” added Rep. Michael Granger (R–Milton Mills), the prime sponsor of HB649, the bill that ended the sticker scam once and for all. “Adding more vanity plate options, from sports teams to political and social causes, would be an excellent source of voluntary revenue for the state.”
“We’re also hearing sticker scam supporters call for mandatory insurance now,” said NHMF Treasurer Steve Zemanek. “Protecting the New Hampshire advantage in having the only competitive, free-market auto insurance market in the nation will be a top priority. All the research our volunteers did during the sticker campaign showed that there is no relation between mandatory insurance, mandatory inspections, and road safety.”
Other topics the NHMF·PAC will be tackling are eliminating many unpopular and superfluous vehicle equipment laws, raising speed limits to match international standards, improving traffic safety without infringing on people’s liberty, and restoring motorist privacy in an age of heavy tracking and surveillance.
The NHMF·PAC is also looking beyond legislation, including educating and assisting motorists in fighting traffic tickets, partnering with and promoting businesses who share our values and goals, and organizing free, voluntary vehicle safety and maintenance events.
When campaigning for HB649, several volunteers walked neighborhoods and parking lots looking for cars with expired inspection stickers. What they discovered in Manchester was eye-opening: In some wards, up to one third of the cars had expired stickers—some years out of date.
“State mandates aren’t necessary for people to drive safe cars,” Olson stated. “No one wants to drive an unsafe car. People try to duck inspections when its expensive and time-consuming, mandatory or not. But we think we can show there’s a better way to ensure safety on our roads.”
The NHMF·PAC invites anyone interested in protecting and expanding motorist freedom in the Granite State to join them. Membership is free and anyone can sign up on their website at nhmotorists.org.
